Dodge Viper Ends Production? …Final Edition Unveiled
The curtains are finally closing on Dodge’s Viper, arguably one of the most recognizable super cars in America… and definitely one of the last production cars to utilize a pushrod style cam-in-block engine. Whoa man, that kind of technology would make H. D. Thoreau’s head spin. But he’s probably the only one, because it was developed in 1949.
Chrysler announced back in November that only “500 more Vipers would be built” and so far it appears they are keeping true to their word, as Dodge has unveiled their marketing scheme for the last 50, appropriately named the “Final Edition.”

These cars will feature a cool graphite-with-black-trim exterior and the always sexy “black with red stitching” look for the interior. And of course, a kickass stereo that only plays “The Final Countdown” by Europe.
Yes, the MSRP will be high and you’ll have to pay even more because goofballs like Jay Leno will go on TV and spout about how rare and historic this car is.
Of the 50 Viper SRT10 Final Editions to be sold, 20 will be hardtop coupes, 18 will be convertible roadsters, and only 12 will be ACR (American Club Racing) edition cars, which features a serious wing and presumably more race-ready features like a roll cage; to make you feel like the man when you bump your head on it reaching to the Burger King drive-thru window.

So is this really it for the Viper, or the automotive equivalent of The Who’s first three farewell tours?
I’ll remind you that there already was a Final Edition Viper, in 2002… 360 “Final Edition GTS”s were made, I think all in red-with-white-stripes although we all know “Viper GTS Blue” was the only color to get.

Then they were only referring to the “final edition” of that body style, nothing to get your thong in a twist over. And frankly, the Dodge website says “this is the last year of the current generation Viper… so I wouldn’t be so sure we won’t see another incarnation of the Snake quite soon.
