1,000 MPH, not MPG, Car Becomes Reality

bloodhound2

It’s good to know somebody out there is more concerned with miles-per-hour than miles-per-gallon.

I’m getting pretty bored of writing about potato-burning Porsches and electrics that can stray more than 200 miles from their charging station.

Those maniacal Brits have put down the tea and picked up some serious engineering skills- to build the first car they claim will hit quadruple-digit MPH speeds.

It’s called the Bloodhound SSC and it’s made of titanium, aluminum, unobtainium and whatever else to weigh in at about six tons.  Pretty heavy, you’d think it would be hard to get moving.

Well, it is.  That’s why it’s got an 800 horsepower V12.

And a jet turbine.

And a rocket.

To create an engine-orgy that produces 47,500 pounds of thrust.  What the hell does that measurement mean, you ask?

How about 133,000 horsepower… good for 0 to 1,000 in as long as the first time you had sex.

I mean 42 seconds.  How close was I?

Projected testing time is 2012, at which point it will end the fossil fuel crisis by gobbling up every last ounce of petrol.  Sure hope the world doesn’t end before we get to see this baby to its thing.
